File Naming and Link Text Optimization

It is very helpful to have keywords in the names of the files. If your Website selling the Foot Wears, and your “About Us” page could have the file name “aboutus.html” but then you would not have any keywords in it. It would be better to have “foot-wears-aboutus.html” or “about-foot-wears.html”.

Try to make your file names descriptive and use targeted keywords whenever possible. If you make a sub-directory, also make sure that its name incorporates an important keyword.

Never, ever use spaces in file and directory names! Windows operating systems do allow spaces and even seem to encourage you to use them, but UNIX operating systems have problems with them. Never make a file such as “page1.hml” or “26562.html ”. When placing keywords in your file names, you want to separate the file name words by not trying "filename.htm" but "file-name.htm", which would boost your pages on many search engines.

Other important place for keywords is in the link text (Some times called Anchor text), which lead to other areas on your Website. Link text refers to the part of the URL that is seen on the page, the visible text that a user clicks on. You can even make a hyperlink that jumps to a bookmark on the same page. Do not to use link text such as "click here", "read more" or similar variants.
